Child SupportModification
Enforcement tools include income withholding (an order pulls support straight from a paycheck, often set up from the start), intercepting tax refunds and lottery winnings, placing liens on property, suspending a driver's or professional license, reporting to credit bureaus, and contempt of court, which can carry jail time for willful non-payment. If you're owed support, you don't have to chase it alone; the state's Child Support Services can help collect. If you're the one ordered to pay and your circumstances change (job loss, illness, etc.), ask the court to modify the order. Don’t stop paying, because arrears keep adding up and generally can't be erased.
