Do I Need a Lawyer?

You're not legally required to have a lawyer. Colorado lets you file "pro se" (representing yourself) using free JDF forms, and for a simple, amicable case with no kids and few assets, plenty of people do exactly that, sometimes finalizing without a hearing. But the more you have at stake (children, a house, retirement accounts, a business, any disagreement, or any power imbalance), the more a lawyer pays for themselves by avoiding costly mistakes. A middle path many use: a one-time consultation or a flat-fee document review to make sure a "simple" DIY divorce really is simple.
