Colorado is organized into judicial districts, and you file your dissolution in the District Court for the county where you or your spouse lives. The law is the same statewide, but local practices vary.

All Colorado dissolutions go to District Court (not county court). You file in the county where you or your spouse resides, e.g., the Denver District Court (Second Judicial District), Arapahoe County (Eighteenth), Douglas County (Twenty-Third), Jefferson County (First), Boulder County (Twentieth), or El Paso County/Colorado Springs (Fourth). Because the statewide law is uniform, the legal substance won't change based on which courthouse you use, but each district and judge can have local rules and habits, such as, how quickly the Initial Status Conference is set, whether and when mediation is ordered, and which parenting-class providers are approved.

The Colorado Judicial Branch website lets you identify the correct district court and find that court's local forms, self-help center, and contact information. If you're unsure which county an address sits in, the county clerk or assessor can confirm.
