South of the metro, El Paso and Teller counties make up the 4th Judicial District, one of the busiest family-law courts in the state, partly because of the large military population at nearby installations. The El Paso county courthouse is located in Colorado Springs while the Teller county courthouse is located in Cripple Creek. It runs the same statewide dissolution process as everywhere else (the 91-day waiting period, an Initial Status Conference, Rule 16.2 disclosures and a Sworn Financial Statement), requires a parenting-education class when minor children are involved, and offers Family Court Facilitators and a self-help center. If a spouse is an active-duty service member, the extra military rules noted in the "out-of-state or military spouse" row can come into play. As always, file in the county where you or your spouse lives, and confirm local procedures with that courthouse.
