Aim for uncontested by settling as much as possible directly or in mediation; use the free official JDF forms and the free Colorado child support calculator; do the "paper chase" yourself for your Rule 16.2 disclosures instead of paying a lawyer's hourly rate to compile what's in your own files; keep your lawyer for legal work and your therapist for emotional support; consider "unbundled" (limited-scope) representation where a lawyer helps with specific pieces rather than the whole case; and use the "decree without appearance" path if you reach a full agreement.
